We are pleased to announce that Dr. Syeda Hasan has joined the Division of Forensic and Correctional Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at Queen’s University as an Assistant Professor and Full-Time Clinical Faculty Member.
Dr. Hasan brings a wealth of international experience and specialized training to our department. She completed her psychiatry training (MRCPsych) in the United Kingdom, with a focus on forensic psychiatry and intellectual disabilities—a highly relevant and impactful combination in today’s clinical landscape.
Her clinical and academic background includes:
- Specialist training in forensic psychiatry and intellectual disabilities across multiple NHS Trusts in the UK.
- Leadership in community learning disability services, managing complex cases and coordinating multidisciplinary care.
- Significant contributions to forensic psychiatry, including work with Ministry of Justice referrals and prison-based psychiatric care.
- Active involvement in medical education, having served as a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire and led workshops to enhance psychiatry training.
- Scholarly contributions to Academic Psychiatry and the British Journal of Learning Disabilities, focusing on autism, catatonia, and emergency psychiatric care.
- Leadership in quality improvement initiatives, including efforts to reduce psychotropic medication overuse.
Dr. Hasan’s commitment to patient-centered care, policy development, and academic excellence will be a tremendous asset to our department and the broader Queen’s community.
