We are proud to offer a diverse, innovative and vibrant environment to help our faculty succeed in their clinical, research, and educational deliverables and achieve their full potential . Our vision is to be a transformative force and help shape the way mental wellness is promoted, and how mental illness is diagnosed, treated or even prevented.

Why Work With Us

Psychiatry is one of the largest clinical departments at Queen’s School of Medicine; yet, it is comprised by a cohesive group of clinicians, educators and researchers – all  committed to provide outstanding mental health services, deliver excellence in education, and generate innovative research.

We are uniquely positioned as the only academic centre in the region, which has allowed us to foster fruitful partnerships with teaching-affiliated hospitals, University-based institutions and centres such as the Centre for Neurosciences Studies.

Experience Life in Kingston

Nicknamed the Limestone City because of the captivating heritage buildings constructed from local limestone, Kingston is both “quaint” and “eclectic”. The city is large enough to provide all the conveniences of modern life, and small enough to feel instantly comfortable. Located along the beautiful shores of Lake Ontario, the city has an active downtown core offering a variety of events and entertainment, independent shops and superb restaurants. The Department of Psychiatry Residency Program will be recruiting 7 residents ( 5 Canadian and 2 international medical graduates) through the Canadian Matching System - CaRMS and the Centre for the Evaluation of Health Professionals Educated Abroad (CEHPEA). The focus of residency training at Queens is to achieve clinical and academic excellence in an inter-professional collaborative care setting. For the first two years of their residency, residents gain core competencies. As senior residents, they are able to take elective time and sub-specialize in their preferred area.

The small size of our residency program provides supervision from some of the best clinicians and/or academic psychiatrists in Canada. You get to know a wide range of mental health professionals and gain exposure to all the relevant areas of clinical and academic psychiatry. At the end of your residency you will have had more hands on patient time and teacher interaction than residents receive at most other Canadian institutions.
