Dr. Hasan completed her psychiatry training (MRCPsych) in the United Kingdom, with a focus on forensic psychiatry and intellectual disabilities—a highly relevant and impactful combination in today’s clinical landscape.
She brings extensive international experience spanning clinical leadership, academic scholarship, and quality improvement. Her work within the UK’s NHS included leadership in community Intellectual disability services, Ministry of Justice forensic assessments, and prison-based psychiatric care.
Dr. Hasan has been actively involved in medical education, serving as a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire and contributing to curriculum development and psychiatry training. Her scholarly work—published in Academic Psychiatry and the British Journal of Learning Disabilities—focuses on autism, catatonia, and emergency psychiatric care, alongside initiatives to reduce psychotropic medication overuse.
In addition to her clinical and academic accomplishments, Dr. Syeda Hasan is also an artist, and she brings creativity and reflective practice into her clinical work and teaching. Her integrative approach fosters innovation in psychiatric care and enhances learner engagement.
Her dedication to patient-centred care, policy development, and academic excellence, combined with her creative perspective, will be a tremendous asset to the Department and the wider Queen’s community.
