Dr. Nazanin Alavi is a staff psychiatrist and assistant professor at the department of psychiatry at Queen's university. She has also worked as a staff psychiatrist in the Mood and Anxiety Division at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and Department of Psychiatry at University of Toronto. After completing her medical training at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Alavi completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Psychology Department at Queen’s university in the Mood Disorders lab. She then joined the residency training program in Psychiatry at Queen’s University and graduated in 2016 and joined department of psychiatry at University of Toronto as a staff psychiatrist.
Dr. Alavi’s research focuses on the effectiveness of online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in treatment of depression and anxiety disorders. She has been designing an online platform for delivering online psychotherapy Dr. Alavi also works on the relationship between bullying and suicidal behaviours and improving suicidal risk assessment in the emergency setting. Dr. Alavi has been recipient of multiple academic and clinical awards including psychiatry Dan Afford award, APA Lily award and Psychiatric Research Scholars Fellowship.
