I am delighted to announce that Dr. Simon O'Brien has accepted the newly created position of Psychiatrist-in-Chief, Providence Care - effective April 1, 2019 (3-year term). In his new role as PIC, Dr. O'Brien will oversee the entire clinical portfolio of mental health services associated with Providence Care - both at the Providence Care Hospital, its adjacent facilities in KFLA as well as Providence Care-affiliated regional outreach programs.
Consistent with the new organizational structure of our Department, the PIC will work closely with the Department Head and Division Chairs/Program Directors to ensure the alignment of clinical programs/services under his oversight and the pursuit of the Department's academic mission, vision and key objectives for 2019-2022. The PIC will also have a pivotal role while representing the clinical interests of our Department at Providence Care and advocating for the resources needed to better serve our patients.
Simon has been an attending physician with Providence Care since 2001 and the Clinical Director for Adult Mental Health since 2007. More recently (2018), he was appointed as Chair of the MAC. He has been an outstanding member of our Department, with a proven track record as a clinician, educator and administrator. I am personally thankful to him for accepting this new and exciting role.
Please join me in congratulating Simon for this appointment!
Best regards
Claudio Soares
Department Head
