Dr. Shabbir Amanullah his MBBS from JSS Medical College in Mysore, India
Completed his DPM from the Central Institute of Psychiatry in Ranchi and went onto complete his MD Psychiatry from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in Bangalore (He was awarded the gold medal in the final exams)
He then went to UK where he completed his MRCPsych and specialized in adult and geriatric psychiatry (He won the Cyril Potter Gold medal of the Birmingham Medical Institute).
On moving to Canada, he worked in Prince Edward Island for 6 years and was Chief of Psychiatry for the Province before leaving in 2012 for Ontario where he worked till 2023 and was Chief of Psychiatry at Woodstock General Hospital.
He created the COGWAL for dementia and was one of the earliest to use synthetic cannabinoids in dementia on a regular basis.
He is currently the President of the Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry, President Oxford County Medical Society as well as serves as Chairman and Scientific Chair of the Indo Canadian Psychiatric Society
Programme Chair for the Ontario Medical Association section of Psychiatry and is on the board of the CPA
He has won many awards including – The distinguished fellow of the Canadian Psychiatric Association
He was awarded the ‘Outstanding contributions to Geriatric Psychiatry award by the Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry in 2020
Dr. Amanullah has published content in several peer-reviewed journals, written chapters and published a book -Complex clinical conundrums in psychiatry.
His research interests include physician burnout, ADHD and autism in the elderly, PTSD in dementia and Cannabinoids in Dementia.
He has presented his research at major meetings and conferences around the world and encouraged many students from diverse backgrounds to get into research and both present and publish their work.
