$1 million gift to support Dementia Research

  • Published Wed Jul 18th 2018

We are delighted to share the news that a member of the Kingston community has made provision in his estate plans for a significant portion of his estate to be used for dementia research at Providence Care Hospital. The expected value of the gift is in the $1million range.

The donor has made this planned gift as a direct result of the care his late wife received while facing dementia. After the recent passing of his wife of 62 years, he requested information on dementia and Alzheimer’s research and care taking place in Kingston hospitals.

The research team at Providence Care Hospital led by Drs. Seitz, Kirkham, Hussain and Gill, made a strong case based on current initiatives and opportunities for growth in dementia research and clinical programs; the proposal was supported by the leadership from the Department of Psychiatry and Providence Care Hospital. The quality and depth of the clinical and research work being conducted in our Department and at Providence Care Hospital, along with the potential benefits of such work for the community at large influenced this gentleman’s decision. This gift signals the trust the donor has in our efforts to advance research on dementia and his appreciation for the compassionate care received at Providence Hospital.

My sincere congrats to our Geriatric Psychiatry Program!
